The spread of Local Anaesthetic within the epidural space.

A local anaesthetic solution is seen being injected through an epidural catheter. The drug spreads laterally through the epidural space and exerts its effects primarily in the region of the emerging nerve roots. This in contrast to the effect of opioids, where the effect is exerted within the spinal cord.
